i wake up really early for work. how early? early enough that i dont even think twice about seeing the sun rise anymore. i remember when seeing the sun rise meant one of two things:
i was up way too late studying
i was up way too late partying
both usually meant that the upcoming day was about to suck.
now seeing the sun rise usually just means one thing:
im on my way into work
sometimes it makes me feel like a vampire. dont get me wrong, i enjoy my schedule. into work early, out of work early. i get more time in the sun, more time to design, write, cook, play ps3, etc.
but that means if you ever want to hang out, were gonna have to schedule it early. i gotta be in bed at 10. grandpa style.
see the headlights in the cars below? yup, theyre on.
were in the thick of the nba playoffs. time for a trip down memory lane and a new t shirt.
one of my fondest memories growing up was watching the nba playoffs with my family, particularly my mom. my parents were not born in the states, and she doesnt work, so her english comprehension, especially listening, is decent, but not great (we have to watch dvds with english subtitles). we didnt have closed captioning back then, and dvds were not around yet, so when we gathered around the tv, there wasnt very much that we could watch.
enter basketball and mjschicago bulls. the sport was super easy to follow (put the ball in the basket, punching your opponent usually leads to fouls), exciting to watch (look at the dunks!), and did not require much language comprehension.
one thing though: she only watched mjs bulls. and only in the playoffs. regular season? she didnt believe in it.
mom:what are they playing for? me: seeding. mom: not the championship? me: no. mom: then these games dont count. go to your room and do your homework.
i remember being extremely sad when mj retired for the second time. from previous experience (his first retirement), i knew that we woudlnt be sitting down as a family and watching basketball anymore. for her, if mj wasnt playing, she wasnt watching (its okay though. by this time, dvds were around so we could watch those together)
i guess thats how special of a player he truly was. sure the man could sell some shoes, and make someawesomelygreatcommercials, but so can many other athletes. mj was special enough to make my mom, a non-sports fan, tune into every nba game he played between april and june. not just on tv either. i remember being on summer vacations and having to translate the radio announcers for her so that she could know the play by play.
because of this, the nba playoffs will always be a special time for me. from hating on the lakers, to last years warriors run, ive had very fond basketball memories from april-junes past.
finals prediction? spurs vs celtics. celtics in 7.
as always, all proceeds go to the glow foundation. help kids go to college.
side note on the zazzle store. some of you may not know this, but i leave all of my shirts fully customizable on the store. this means that you can take one of my designs, put it on a mens/womens/kids shirt dark or light, and change all of the text. you can even choose the shirt material, 100% cotton, vintage shirt, heavy duty, etc. the shirts that i have predesigned on the webstore are just a simple guide to what the shirts could look like.
got back from my friend andys birthday and came to this realization: a lot of my friends, andy included, work in finance. what does this mean? as far as i can tell, it means that they use microsoft excel a lot, work crazy hours, and treasure their blackberries more than any other possession in the world. their apartments could be burning down and theyd probably grab their blackberry first (for me, it would be tv, ps3, nas). it seems to be a love-hate relationship. they hate when they get emailed about work, but they cant seem to stop checking them.
with all the constant checking and emailing back and forth, all of them have become very proficient in typing out entire essays on those devices. paris hilton and her sidekick dont got nothing on these people. frankly, im surprised that their thumbs still work. i can barely bang out a twitter or a text message on my blackjack without taking a break for some water and some thumb yoga. and if youve ever gotten a text message or seen my twitter, you know its riddled with typos and horrendous grammar.
so to andy and the rest of the finance world, i commend you on your amazing finger dexterity and present to you the blackberry ninja: makes no typos.

why do i love 30 rock so much? is it because tracy jordan starred in a movie titled who dat ninja? (see movie poster below)
is it because last night, one of the story lines revolved around tracy jordan making a porn video game? (watch 9 second clip below)
one things for certain. with a star wars explanation of the uncanny valley (clip below), ninja posters, and video games, its no wonder why i love the show so much. plus, this show also introduced me to the terms mind grapes and thoughtsicles.
now i just have to find out where i can get me one of those who dat ninja posters.
mothers day is right around the corner, and if youre an awesome offspring like me, youre going to get your mom something nice that says, “see mom? i might not ever call or visit, but at least i thought about you on mothers day.”
yeah, flowers or chocolates could do, but those choices are for suckers. why you ask? flowers die, and then shell will forget that you ever did something nice for her. chocolates make her gain weight, and shell curse you for sabotaging her health.
trust me, a t shirt is the way to go. back in the day, when i had absolutely no illustrator or photoshop skills, i made my dad this shirt for fathers day (it looks like i drew this using microsoft paint).
to this day, he wears it around and proudly tells anyone who looks at it, “my son made me this shirt for fathers day.” (im not sure if he is proud of the fact that i made the shirt, or trying to let them know that he does all of the cooking in the house).
point is, he puts that shirt on, and thinks to himself, “this is one spiffy shirt. my son sure is awesome for getting me this.”
question: dont you want your mom to feel and think about you the same way? answer: heck yeah you do! now get her a mothers day t shirt.
now that we have established that a t shirt is an awesome gift to give, and after going through some more extensive illustrator and photoshop tinkering, i give you the mothers day t shirt. happy mothers day - to: mom. from: kid. remember, all sales go to the glow foundation.
side note: you will want to stick to printing this design on a light background. the transparency effects will probably look strange on a dark one.
