just ran across the video for hands held high, the best record on linkin parks minutes to midnight. i got pretty emotional the first time i heard it.

currently playing – music from commercials

lately, there has been some great music in commercials. to me, the music seems to be more memorable than the products being sold. thats probably a problem, as companies probably dont want viewers thinking,

damn that song playing right now during this commercial is awesome. i better go on the internet and find out who the artist is so that i can download their music on itunes.

the first clip is called the last thing on your mind by lights. where have you heard this? probably while watching the nba playoffs on tnt/espn. its the soundtrack to the new old navy neon nights campaign. i cant get this song out of my head. their sound reminds me of imogen heap from frou frou. i know, not the manliest sounding song, but its damn catchy. hopefully old navy sells millions of halter tops with this campaign.

the next song has been out a while, from one of my “watch out for” bands: silversun pickups. the song is lazy eye from their last album carnavas. its used in this chevy malibu assembly line commercial. its nice to see that the band is getting national exposure, albeit via a commercial. will it make me go buy a chevy malibu? probably not. will it make you go buy some silversun pickups songs? maybe. you should pick up carnavas. its a solid album.

the last song that has recently caught my attention via commercial is funeral by band of horses. its the soundtrack used in the slightly older ford edge spot. the song has a very haunting moving melody, reminiscent of something that they would use in an episode of the oc, which by the way, had the best soundtrack of any tv show in recent memory. it took me a while to remember what car the commercial was trying to sell. i just had a picture in my head of the girl looking up through the moonroof. again, i probably wont buy a ford focus, i mean ford edge.

moral of the story: i like songs in car commercials, but they dont make me want to buy the cars.

i usually carpool with lucy for work. shes in hawaii this week. gas prices are extremely high. i am not pleased.

back in the day, i remember playing super mario brothers and ducking into pipes that would magically transport the player to different worlds. this was in the 1980s. why havent we invented warp zone pipes yet? seriously whats the hold up? lets get on this people!

pizza + omelette = awesome brinner

last night was pizza night. when that happens, i usually have a bunch of toppings left over. while surveying the fridge tonight, i had a revelation: i love pizza. i love omelettes. i have leftover pizza toppings. time to make a pizza omelette.

follow these simple instructions to make your own awesome brinner. prep time: approx 25 minutes.

ingredients needed:

1. 2 eggs
2. 1/4 green pepper (chopped)
3. 1/4 red onion (chopped)
4. 7-9 slices of pepperoni
5. 2 sliced mushrooms
6. handful of spinach
7. shredded mozzarella (to taste)
8. tater tots (however many you think you can eat)

directions:

1. preheat the oven for the tater tots. while the oven is heating, chop up your onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms.
2. beat eggs in a bowl.
3. youll have a few minutes here. turn on tv and catch up on the nba playoffs.
4. after the oven has heated, place the tater tots on a baking tray and insert in oven. these should take about 20 minutes.
5. when there are 10-12 minutes left until the tots are done, sauté the ingredients you prepared in the first step.
6. when the onions begin to turn translucent, add the spinach and the pepperoni. there should be about 6 minutes left until the tots are done.
7. when spinach and pepperoni look ready, add the eggs. flip when necessary.
8. top with mozerella and ketchup if desired. add tots on the side.
9. plate and garnish.
10. grab a fork and enjoy!

if you followed the directions, you should come up with something that looks kinda like the image below.

ps. it aint brinner without potatoes. also, derek fisher never gets called for fouls at the end of games. not tonight, not ever.

mario kart banana t shirt… remixed

nintendo did not like me using their banana image, even if i recreated it, changed the eyes, the dimensions, and the colorations of said image. punks.

so i dug into my mindgrapes and came up with an mario kart angry banana: the remix t. you mess with the angry ninja banana, you get the horns… err you slip and crash. big time.

out of the ashes of the old mario kart banana t comes mario kart banana – slippery. you can change the word “slippery” to anything you want.

red mango vs. froyo vs. yogurtland. all are full of lies

its been a yogurt-filled memorial day weekend. on saturday, i had red mango . on sunday, i had froyo . today, i had yogurtland .

fruity. im talking about the yogurt.

i cant really decide which one i like the best. all are delicious. all are also full of lies.

all three stores touted the health benefits of frozen yogurt (hey, americas got an obesity problem).

me : hey check it out. frozen yogurt is good for you. it helps regulate digestion and gets rid of acne!
the lady : really? i been eating this sh*t all week and i havent been able to poo for two days. (the lady is so ladylike)
me : hmm. and i just got two zits on my face…

so dont believe the health benefits hype. frozen yogurt probably has none. it sure as hell didnt help with pooping or clearing up skin.

red mango = crack. both bad for your wallet.

if youre ever in the palo alto area, you should hit up red mango. its an frozen yogurt place. but not just any frozen yogurt place. its a frozen yogurt place that has yogurt so delicious that after eating my first cup, i immediately got back into the long-ass line to get a second cup.

yes. it was so delicious that i ate two (and i usually have such good self control). not only did i get two, but my buddy who had just eaten a medium sized cup (pictured below is the small size) also immediately got in line with me to get seconds as well. the cashier thought we were nuts.

i ate both of these.

second thought, you should probably stay away, this place will probably rob you of all your moneys and ruin any summertime sexyback diet/workout routine youre currently on.

on an interesting side note, this particular franchise is owned by yul kwon of survivor fame. you can see him in the back of the store checking inventory and chopping fruit. pretty awesome.

reader request turns into one hot hot hot shirt

turns out the people love tvs. no surprise to me. i was practically raised in front of a tv.

fellow reader and t shirt enthusiast king requested that i create a back to the tv: nothing is on shirt , and i had to oblige. the result? one really hot looking shirt. this shirt is so hot that it looks like something pharrell willams of nerd would wear. and that dude only wears a bathing ape stuff, so you know its hot.

i am so excited for metal gear solid 4. yes, i am a super dork

oh man oh man. i am a giant metal gear solid freak. its the reason i bought a ps2. its a reason i own a ps3. its basically the reason i am into video games today. below is a running time line of my history with the metal gear solid franchise, 10 years in the making.

metal gear solid released on the psone – october 21, 1998

• october 24-31 – i overthrow liquid snake and destroy metal gear rex (i love shooting stinger missles by the way). i receive the bandana.
• november 7-8 – i play through metal gear solid once again with the bandana. i receive the sneaking suit
• november 14-15 i play through metal gear solid once again with the sneaking suit. i receive the tuxedo. what good is a tuxedo in a tactical espionage game!? screw that. no more play throughs.

metal gear solid 2: sons of liberty released on ps2 – november 14, 2001

• im at cal. cannot play due to finals. get home for winter break and lock myself in my room with my ps2 for 2 weeks to beat the game. take that vamp! very disappointed that i have to play the 2/3 of the game as raiden. still enjoy it enough to play through it twice.

metal gear solid 3: snake eater released on ps2 – november 17, 2004

• no longer at cal, beat the game in 2 weeks. during the middle of the second play through, decided (correctly?) that having a job was probably more important.

so thats six and a half playthroughs. six and a half times at approximately 20 hours each is… a lot of hours, and a lot of good times.

now on the predicting the future (just call me nostradamus)…

metal gear solid 4: guns of the patriots will be released on ps3 – june 12, 2008

• june 12 – ???. ps3? check. dualshock3 controller? currently being shipped. htdv? check. couch? check. pizza? will be ordered. okay all systems go. the lady must be thrilled.

in honor of this momentous occasion, and to the end of a great era in gaming (mgs4 is rumored to be the last of the “solid” titles), i bring you: box – hide here. those of you familiar with mgs will instantly appreciate a good hiding box. side note – the shipping label on the box reads, “ship to: angry ninja.” just a little personal touch.
