americanizing parents, early christmas spirit!

November 28th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in food, gaming

usually on thanksgiving, my family and i just crash the awesome thanksgiving shindig at smallchous. change of plans this year. tired of being the freeloaders, my mom and my aunt decided to have a family thanksgiving instead. (my argument that smallchou is family didnt hold water)

their thanksgiving meal plan? hot pot… you heard me right… a boiling pot of water that you throw things in.

now besides the 4th of july, thanksgiving is probably the most american holiday that we celebrate – a whole day of eating, drinking, and football? and were going to have hot pot? not on my watch mom and dad.

so i went over to casa de chou, and learned how to turn this:

into this:

trust me, it was nothing short of a thanksgiving miracle.

so after the wine and meal at my house, i longboarded over to smallchous – to say hey to his family… aka eat some pie. the day of non-stop wine drinking made for an interesting ride. there sure are a lot of cracks on the roads of los altos.

now im not sure if it was the wine or the tryptophan, but i ended up having the following conversation with an 8 year old.

kid: i love playstation 2. its so fun!
me: yeah its aiite. i have a ps3, i think thats more fun
kid: ps2 is the best!
me: do you have a ps2?
kid: no.
me: do you want mine? ill go home right now and get it for you.
kid: no. i dont want it.
me: didnt you just say how much you loved ps2?
kid: i dont need it.
me: its not about what you need. do you want it? you can have it.
kid: its okay. i dont need it.

now at the time i was having the conversation, i kept thinking, man whats wrong with this kid? im offering him a ps2 and hes rejecting the offer? i have got to be the worst salesperson of all time.

but thinking about it now, that kid is really somethign else – something that we all talk about during the holidays – my own version of tiny tim. to be aware of wants/needs at such a young age is pretty special. i know for a fact that if someone had offered the 8 year old version of me a free ps2, id snatch that up in a heartbeat. i really hope his parents get him something awesome for christmas, he deserves it.

jade raymond + hideo kojima… oh my

November 25th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in gaming

jade raymond produced a pretty amazing multi platform game called assassins creed last year. girls that are into video games are pretty awesome. here she is presenting hideo kojima a lifetieme achievement award for my favorite games of all time – the metal gear solid series.

watching this video makes me want to play through them again. except that would take about 80 hours to do. it also makes me want to play assassins creed too. too bad i lent my buddy rob both of these games – probably a good thing.

also, you should pick up this awesome metal gear solid inspired t shirt from the angry ninja store:

i never made an assassins creed t shirt, but now maybe i will!

guess which gmail theme angry ninja uses

November 24th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in news

recently, google unveiled gmail themes to prettify my gmail. yay. with so many themes to choose from, how could i decide?

would i be boring and just continue using the default theme?

  • eh too plain.

i do love the beach and summertime. maybe the summer ocean theme will do?

  • why is the sand brown? meh.

and then i found it. one theme to rule them all… the ninja theme!

  • ninjas? check
  • nunchucks? check
  • ninja stars? check
  • swords? check
  • weird japanese characters? check

man someone at google definitely loves ninjas. first the konami code, now this.

the magic of sounds

November 23rd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in sports

this post is for all of those golden bear fans that have attended a game in memorial stadium.

in the past, ive mentioned how rediscovering a particular song can be like finding an old friend. this weekend, i had the same expereince with a sound.

there i was at the big game, when i hear this familiar cheer erupt through the crowd.

hearing that reminded me of all the games i watched back at school (back when tom holmoe was coaching and we were horrible, up to the current tedford era) and i have to tell you, i got a little emotional. ok, well no i didnt – but i did when we won.

ill tell you what i didnt get all emotional about – walking around telegraph ave and smelling berkeleys unique aroma.

im glad i got to capture such a special sound and immortalize it for all time on angry ninja. i just wish that crazy lady behind me didnt cheer like such a banshee.

give em the axe the axe the axe the axe!!!

November 20th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in adventure, design, sports, store

big game weekend is almost upon us, and you know that theres no way i would let that occasion pass without unveiling a new design. now i originally thought of a bunch of juvenile shirts like a bear peeing on the tree, or a bear chopping down a tree, but this site is suitable for kids of all ages. peeing on things and violence is never the answer.

its been a while since my golden bears havent had the axe (big game trophy), so i hope that this makes the players hungry for the win. although rose bowl and holiday bowl aspirations are gone, a win over stanford is always a nice way to close out the season.

i will be watching the game at good old (emphasis on old) memorial stadium. with the crappy driving and public parking situation, ill be riding the ever so lovely bart. im risking my life sitting in the stands of a stadium built on a fault line, and riding with hobos and winos on bart just for the game. god i hope we win. and that i dont die.

go bears.

dude… im famous…

November 18th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in news, tv

The following conversation i had with my mom made it onto the insanely popular blog mymomisafob.com

Mom: Are you going to watch Nightlight?
Me: Um what?
Mom: Nightlight. You know, it just beat the Larry Porrey books.
[Larry Porrey = Harry Potter]
Me: …do you mean Twilight? Probably not.
Mom: Yes, Nightlight. Why not? I remember you like vampire shows, like Buddy.
Me: Mom, it’s Buffy, not Buddy.
Mom: Same things. You know what I mean.

if you find that amusing, you can also check out mydadisafob

san jose sharks t shirts – angry ninjafied

November 13th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in design, sports, store

dont wanna jinx em, but the san jose sharks are off to a pretty good start. now im not the biggest hockey fan in the world, but i do have some bay area love, so i present to you: shark ninja t shirt.

plus, ive been getting requests for a sharks themed t shirt. luckily, i went with a shark mask (reminds me of nabbys old helmet) this time, instead of a ninja riding a shark.

thats probably a good call.
