stop complaining about transformers

listen, if you went to watch transformers: revenge of the fallen, it was for one of two reasons:

1. 1. lots of giant robots
2. 2. megan fox

actually,  maybe both reasons.

you didnt go see it for any sort of storyline, character/plot development, writing, etc. its a michael bay film. dont go in there expecting shawshank redemption. do go in there expecting robot balls.

will all of that said, i heart giant robots (balls and all).

every once in a while, i come across something amazing that i have to share with the angry ninja world.

im a little bit of a gadget freak, so i do work on/use multiple computers. and there was never a great way to sync up all of the stuff that i was working on. over the years, i concocted many ways to make sure i had the latest files on hand:

• ftp: logging in and out was always a pain. and then my home computer had to be on all the time.
• network folder: mapping drives also worked for a while, but then there was no way for me to access my files while i wasnt on my home network.
• email: having a bunch of emails with attachments is annoying. also, what if i forgot to email myself the latest file?

so there was never a perfect solution. thats when i discovered dropbox.

you install the software on the computers you use and it creates folder on each. anything that you put into the folders is automatically synced up across all folders. there is a pictures folder for you to share all of your pictures with all of yoru fiends (finally, no excuse for not emailing those vacation photos), and there is a public folder for you to share files with your friends.

basically, now i have access to all of my recent files, no matter where i am. ive found myself working on designs and listening to my latest mp3s  in the bedroom on the macbook, on my desktop at work, at my friend’s, or even my parent’s place.  the best thing: it works on mac and on windows. it will change the way you work on your computers. guaranteed.

time to spit some game… tomorrow

first of all, i have to say sorry for the lack of updates this week. you see, little big planet arrived last saturday, and ive spent a lot of my free time running, jumping, swinging, and creating. it is quite excellent. definitely a must-buy if you have a ps3.

okay now that we got that out of the way, tomorrow is halloween, and heres how that shakes out

• as a kid, that meant you got to dress up as your favorite super hero/princess and run around your neighborhood asking for candy.
• as a teen, it meant you got to get dressed in all black and go around egging/toilet papering peoples houses.
• as a 20-something year old, it means you get to put on all sorts of sexually deviant clothing and try to attract the attention of a member of the opposite sex.

for guys, this means dressing up as

• spartan from 300 if you have the guns and the abs
• dick in a box if you dont

for the ladies, youve got the options of

• sexy kitten
• school girl
• naughty nurse

now halloween is one of those occasions where everybody goes out. it doesnt matter if your single, in a relationship, or in a coma. youll see everyone out at halloween parties, meaning if your single, this is the perfect place to meet members of the opposite sex.

sadly, other singles dont travel alone, so that sexy kitten or spartan youve been eyeing all night? well she or he comes attached to the hip with that ugly betty two face – and youre not even sure if ugly betty or two face is wearing a costume.

this is when you need a grenade jumper. what is that you ask? well a grenade jumper is one of your friends who will jump on ugly betty or two face, occupying their time and buying them drinks so that you can talk to the sexy kitten or spartan.

we salute you brave grenade jumpers – making the land safe for single people everywhere.

and the winner is…

karas cupcakes. dont get me wrong, sprinkles is pretty dang awesome, but karas frosting puts it over the top. sprinkles frosting is like sugar cookie frosting – a bit harder and flakier. karas is much smoother – more like what you would expect a cupcake topping to be like.

at the end of the day, im not gonna complain if im offered a cupcake from either of these places, but karas takes the cake (pun intended). these cupcakes are sugar bombs, so make sure you have milk handy.

both get 5/5 angry ninjas, with karas getting the nod.

ps. rough football weekend – fantasy and niners

a video game history lesson + super awesome megaman t shirt

video games were painful back in the day. you see, before developers were able to put video games on cds, dvds, and blu ray discs – all which have abundant storage space, they had to cram them into cartridges. these cartridges were pretty primitive and could not hold very much information, which is why back in the day graphics and music were so horrible.

now i could easily deal with crappy graphics and the music grew on me, i was a kid back then, and hdtv, hdmi cables, 1080p, dolby and digital surround sound were all very far into the future. what i couldnt deal with was how frustrating games were in the 80s and 90s. you see, typically, a gamer is satisfied with about 20-30 hours of play time on a single game, or they feel cheated out of their $60. now this is not a problem because developers can simply make the game longer, since the media (dvd and blu ray now) has so much capacity.

back in the day, this was impossible with cartridges. they simply couldnt just add more length to a game, so instead, they made games nearly impossible, especially for little kids. i mean, i never beat super mario brothers until i was in college – too much hand-eye coordination needed.

i was reminded of this when playing megaman 9 (just released on ps3). see, instead of updating the game, capcom brought it back to its roots, so what you have is a level-wise short, but impossible game. how impossible you ask? lets just say that i died 3 times without making it past the first level. i almost threw my dualshock 3 into my hdtv in frustration.

which brings me to todays megaman inspired t shirt design. megaman sucks – not the game, but the character himself. he is weak, starts out every game with a dinky pea shooter, and every single bad guy is stronger, faster and takes more trickeries to beat.

this would not have happened if say, the game centered around mega ninja man. i mean with mega ninja man i could probably finish the game off and kill all the baddies in like 2 hours.

side note on the zazzle store. some of you may not know this, but i leave all of my shirts fully customizable on the store. this means that you can take one of my designs, put it on a mens/womens/kids shirt dark or light, and change all of the text. you can even choose the shirt material, 100% cotton, vintage shirt, heavy duty, etc. the shirts that i have predesigned on the webstore are just a simple guide to what the shirts could look like.

one super busy weekend

angry ninja so tired from weekend. lady was gone, so it was filled with angry ninja with friends activities.

thursday night

1. after dropping off the lady at the airport, went to fu lam mum for their late night dim sum. four shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, and three custard buns later, i am stuffed. and its also 12 oclock. way past my bedtime for a weeknight.

friday night

1. tgi fridays is one happening place. what makes it so? happy hour from 10 pm to 12 am. half off beers and appetizers == super full. also super sleepy. always get the sesame jack chicken.

saturday

1. the day was spent hanging out with my cousin, helping my dad repair the deck (made me feel manly) in the backyard, watching burn after reading, making shepherds pie (recipe to follow later – so delicious), and going out to bjs for appetizers and drinks. i think i just described enough activities for an entire weekend right there.

what a bridal bazzar

that was quite a weekend. for those of you who couldnt read between the lines,  i was in vegas for a bachelor party, i mean bridal bazzar. good times all around. heres a mini recap of some of the events. dont worry. this post is sfw:

del friscos

after landing in beautiful las vegas, the first thing we did was head out to del friscos. you might have not heard of this joint before, but our cabbie said that it was the best steakhouse in all of vegas. now i havent eaten at all the steakhouses in vegas, so i cant give a real comparison, but it really was one of the best steaks ive had.

venetian

we stayed at the venetian. now im not sure if this is normal, but that hotel smells really weird. i was told that each of the hotels purposely have a distinct smell piped in – im just not sure why the venetians smell had to be vanilla funk. the suites were really nice and large, so we werent tripping all over each other. one weird thing – it is impossible to get anywhere in that hotel without going through a maze of elevators/hallways. this makes it hard to navigate at 6 in the morning. especially when youre stuck in an elevator with strangers.

pai gow poker

out of all the times ive been to vegas, i had yet to find a game i really enjoyed. my friends all enjoy blackjack (game goes too fast), poker (requires too much thinking), and roulette (holy moley, im not even going to get into this one) to some degree, but ive never really found a game that i really felt comfortable playing. until pai gow poker. its especially awesome when you get a kick ass dealer that does things like this:

dealer (while slapping friends hand): are you serious?! what did i say?! 6 or higher, you split!
friend: oh i forgot.
dealer (grabs one of his $5 chips): if you win this hand, you give me this chip. if you lose this hand, ill give you it back.

now imagine that going on for the entire 3 hours we sat at the table. awesome

overall, it was definitely a great experience. we went with a group of solid guys and had just enough events planned so that we werent bored at any time of the day. it was nice to spend some time with the bachelor, who ive known for 19 years. mike, youve always been the older brother i never had, and i know you expressed some interest in angry ninja t shirts, so this ones for you. your lady is lucky to have such a stand-up guy.

ps. it feels great to not have to share a bed with another dude anymore.

angry ninja movie review – two for the price of one

so i said that i was going to catch either get smart or the the incredible hulk this weekend. well it turns out that fate wanted me to watch both. why fate?

1. i had a free movie pass
2. the lady was out of town
3. i dont have air conditioning
4. it was hot as hades this weekend
5. did i mention that i dont have air conditioning?

those five things just dont occur over by accident. fate.

get smart

now i remember watching the tv show on nick at nite when i was a kid. from what i can remember, and my memory is pretty fuzzy, the movie did a pretty good job portraying the characters (i just dont remember agent 99 – anne hathaway – ever being so hot… or so young.)

steve carell did a pretty good job as max smart. he was his usual funny self and the rock had some moments as well. add in the guy who plays hiro on heroes, and you have yourself a pretty entertaining movie.

the incredible hulk

given the bust/horribleness that was hulk in 2003, i had mild expectations for this film. i just dont think that a very good comic book story can be written about a big green giant who gets angry and smashes things.

well add the word “incredible” in the title and what do you get? an incredible movie? well, no. you get a movie that is much better. edward norton is as usual, solid, and the fight at the end is one of the better comic book fights in recent memory.

iron man could learn a lesson or two that area (if im watching comic book movie, i want to see an epic fight, not some pansy lets-just-fly-up-as-high-as-we-can-and-insert-spoiler-here). speaking of iron man, tony stark makes a little cameo at the end of the movie. not sure if i should be excited, or dreading what it precludes.

so there you have it folks. two movies this weekend. both worth watching (at least renting on dvd). now i need to figure out a way to not burninate.

being sick = gatorade and lots of movies

as some of you know, i was struck with some sort of crazy sickness on friday/this weekend. i had a fever, couldnt eat, couldnt sleep, couldnt leave the house for more than 30 min at a time (had to say near the bathroom). what caused it? might have been the heat. might have been the ebola virus.

there isnt much to do when youre bed/couchridden. i coudlnt even bring myself to play assassins creed on the ps3. that would have involved thinking, paying attention and intricate button mashing – way more effort than i could muster at that state. instead, i drank a lot of gatorade and watched a buttload of movies. heres the rundown, along with my reviews.

note: the more angry ninjas a review gets, the more awesome the movie, because angry ninjas are awesome. this isnt some sort of reverse rating system where the more angry the movie makes me, the more angry ninjas it receives. now that weve got that settled…

27 dresses

watched this with the lady. its a mix between how to lose a guy in 10 days and (insert chick flick here). it had its funny moments (any scene with judy greer is pretty funny). the plot is predictable, but if your lady friend really wants to watch this movie, its not unbearable.

king of kong – a fistful of quarters

if youre interested in classic video games like donkey kong, galaga, centipede, etc, this is worth a watch. its a documentary about a guy who sets off to be the world champion in donkey kong. hes an average schmoe, who is pitted against the sleazy current world champion. when i say sleazy, i mean it. funny to see how politics are in play everywhere, even in video game championships.

the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford

holy crap give me those 2.5 hours of my life back. i saw the ratings on rotten tomatoes and thought this would be worth putting on my blockbuster queue. boy was i wrong. this movie contained no pacing, was mind numbingly boring (i think i fell asleep for like 10 minutes), and i am getting frustrated/mad just writing this paragraph. maybe it was because i watched it while i was sick, but man, i thought this movie sucked big time.

cloverfield

awesome awesome awesome. i popped this dvd in not expecting much, given the lukewarm reviews and word of mouth bashery it received. well i for one, was very entertained. loved the unique storytelling, flashbacks, and the subtle video game references (the entire movie is shot via the perspective of a handheld camera, by a guy named hud = heads up display = how information such as life/ammo is displayed to the gamer on screen for you non-gamers).

warning: watching this on too big of a tv screen might make you queasy. not as queasy as blair witch though.
