currently playing - music from commercials

May 29th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in music, tv

lately, there has been some great music in commercials. to me, the music seems to be more memorable than the products being sold. thats probably a problem, as companies probably dont want viewers thinking,

damn that song playing right now during this commercial is awesome. i better go on the internet and find out who the artist is so that i can download their music on itunes.

the first clip is called the last thing on your mind by lights. where have you heard this? probably while watching the nba playoffs on tnt/espn. its the soundtrack to the new old navy neon nights campaign. i cant get this song out of my head. their sound reminds me of imogen heap from frou frou. i know, not the manliest sounding song, but its damn catchy. hopefully old navy sells millions of halter tops with this campaign.

the next song has been out a while, from one of my “watch out for” bands: silversun pickups. the song is lazy eye from their last album carnavas. its used in this chevy malibu assembly line commercial. its nice to see that the band is getting national exposure, albeit via a commercial. will it make me go buy a chevy malibu? probably not. will it make you go buy some silversun pickups songs? maybe. you should pick up carnavas. its a solid album.

the last song that has recently caught my attention via commercial is funeral by band of horses. its the soundtrack used in the slightly older ford edge spot. the song has a very haunting moving melody, reminiscent of something that they would use in an episode of the oc, which by the way, had the best soundtrack of any tv show in recent memory. it took me a while to remember what car the commercial was trying to sell. i just had a picture in my head of the girl looking up through the moonroof. again, i probably wont buy a ford focus, i mean ford edge.

moral of the story: i like songs in car commercials, but they dont make me want to buy the cars.

currently playing - joshua radin. also currently dying from hotness

you ever hear a song or artist you havent heard in a while and it feels like youre reconnecting with an old friend? its like you instantly recognize them even though you havent seen or heard from them in years.

i get that way with music. i havent heard joshua radin in a long time. in fact, according to itunes , the last time i listened to one of his songs was 3/4/2005, over three years ago. so you can imagine my pleasant surprise when i heard him and ingrid michaelson (the girl singing in the old navy sweater commercial ) doing a duet the end of greys anatomy - the lady watches it, not me, i swear. ive included a clip of the song , “sky,” above.

anyways, i got to excited to hear from him that i immediately jumped on itunes and downloaded his latest ep. so far, im pretty impressed. i remember first hearing him on a very moving episode of scrubs . mr. radin must have an affinity for tv shows about hospitals and doctors. below is a clip of the song from scrubs - “closer”.

he has a very soothing voice. its very calming during these times of insane heatwaves - it hit over 100 today .

im also kick starting my line of music ts . check them out below. ive included a variety of colors so youll be able to print them on any color shirt.

side note on the zazzle store. some of you may not know this, but i leave all of my shirts fully customizable on the store. this means that you can take one of my designs, put it on a mens/womens/kids shirt dark or light, and change all of the text. you can even choose the shirt material, 100% cotton, vintage shirt, heavy duty, etc. the shirts that i have predesigned on the webstore are just a simple guide to what the shirts could look like.
