more giants games and empowering birthday presents!

May 10th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in news, sports

[update] once again, the angry ninja blog shows its magical powers. one day later, lincecum catches on fire and the giants score 8. the kid is awesome!

attended the giants phillies game for my birthday tonight. came to a sad conclusion: in order to win, the giants need to hold the opponent to under 4 runs a game. is 4 a magical number you ask? yup, yup it is. it is the maximum number of runs the giants can generate.

see fred lewis out there? see how sad and lonely he looks? this is because the phillies are going to score 7 runs during the game, making it impossible for his team to win.

went to the game with the lady, jack, and ivy, who had the following presents for me.

seem pretty normal. girls give books as presents all the time (at least to me). maybe there is something about books that make them seem like they would be good presents. either that, or girls might just tend to think that i need to read more books to broaden my horizons and make me a more interesting person.

well considered them broadened. these books are going to be awesome, and they definitely contain a lot of knowledge that can be bestowed upon me. flipping through the pages, i run across the following images.

see that? im going to learn how to punch someone in the balls. with authority. kim kardashian didnt need to take those self defense lessons to stay safe from stalkers. she should have just read this book.

i will also learn how to use crazy nunchakus/wood block things and grow an awesome mustache.

i cant wait to see what tomorrow at le colonial brings. forecast calls for 70% chance of inappropriateness, with 80% chance of adventure. 100% chance of awesome guaranteed.

welcome back tv! good thing i have eyeball insurance.

May 1st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in design, sports, store, tv

here at angry ninja headquarters, the writers strike was a real bummer. there i was, with a beautiful high definition tv begging to be watched, with no new programming.

and then the stars aligned and tv was back in my life once again, better and stronger than ever. what happened to change my fortune you ask?

  1. comcast upgraded my hd lineup
  2. writers strike ended
  3. i started my new work schedule
  4. nba playoffs started

so i went from having 7 hd channels and no shows to watch, to having 20+ hd channels and too many shows. in a typical week, ill watch how i met your mother, 30 rock, scrubs, my name is earl, the office, smallville, numb3rs, the nba playoffs, giants games, and sharks games (man i watch a lot of nbc, especially on thursdays). then come summer, rescue me and entourage will be back in the rotation. good thing friday night lights and 24 are on hiatus or my eyeballs would probably fall out of my skull.

does tv rot your brain? is it really an idiot box/boob tube? if they ever did a study, id be a pretty good subject to experiment on. man tv is awesome. which brings me to the latest design. tv: nothing is on.

ps. makes sure to get your mom a mothers day gift. theres still time to pick one up from the angry ninja webstore!

nothing is on

side note on the zazzle store. some of you may not know this, but i leave all of my shirts fully customizable on the store. this means that you can take one of my designs, put it on a mens/womens/kids shirt dark or light, and change all of the text. you can even choose the shirt material, 100% cotton, vintage shirt, heavy duty, etc. the shirts that i have predesigned on the webstore are just a simple guide to what the shirts could look like.

giants game & gummy bears

April 11th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in design, sports, store

here we go, lots to talk about today. lots of pictures too, so this post will look nice and pretty. i know how everyone likes a good picture book.

last night i went to the giants game with the lady, gookie and lucy. it was a very good time. before that, i was sitting on my couch, eating gummy bears. more on the gummy bears later.

at the game, i got to see a giants win, eat garlic fries, and see in person how fast fred lewis really is (did anyone see that superman leap he took into third base?). we had seats down the third base line, so this was our view (everyone - well all 30,000 of us is standing up because this is during last pitch):

whoo last pitch!

we also all got posters of matt cain even though kevin correia was pitching. poor game day logistics planning i guess.

during the game, i had to get up and leave multiple times to get various things to eat and drink. this led very pissed off fans at the end of our aisle and to the following conversation:

me: hey, its the seventh inning stretch you want to get a hot dog?
lady: no i want you to get me a hot dog.
me: oh. do you want a souvenir? i saw some giants teddy bears.
lady: no i want two.

i came back with this. mmmmm tastes good! i think she might still be mad about that.

tasty!

ok now back to the gummy bears. so there i was, sitting on my couch eating gummy bears before the game, thinking about how much i love them. i remember being very little, and gummy bears were one of the few candies i was allowed to eat (one of the other ones was starbursts). i believe this was because my parents thought that gummy bears and starbursts had nutritional value in the form of fruit juice. it also might have been because my mom is an absolute gummy bear and starburst fiend - some for me meant some for her. whatever the case may be, i still feel the same way to this day. last november, i was in taiwan and ate almost half a bottle of childrens gummy bear vitamins (i cant read chinese).

i remember always grouping all of my gummy bears by color, and eating them one color at a time. i thought that the white ones by far were the tastiest, and i remember not caring too much for the yellow or the orange flavors. i wonder if anyone else did this? or maybe i have a little bit of rain man in me. either that or ocd.

anyways, eating those gummy bears was the inspiration behind the following designs, all available on the zazzle store now.

extra yummy

extra tangy

extra chewy

extra juicy

side note on the zazzle store. some of you may not know this, but i leave all of my shirts fully customizable on the store. this means that you can take one of my designs, put it on a mens/womens/kids shirt dark or light, and change all of the text. you can even choose the shirt material, 100% cotton, vintage shirt, heavy duty, etc. the shirts that i have predesigned on the webstore are just a simple guide to what the shirts could look like.

email post - well that was anticlimactic

April 10th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in news

background: i was testing out the wordpress email-to-post feature while i was getting my car serviced today. there i was, sitting at the service center, typing an email post thinking to myself, “man this is going to be so awesome. im going to be able to write on angry ninja without having to actually be in front of a computer.” if i have an epiphany while driving around, cruising on the bart, or sitting on the can, i can whip out my phone and write about it. sweet! i typed out the email, sent it, got back home and what do i see? nothing. zilch. nada.

conclusion: email-to-post feature in its current stage sucks. if anyone has gotten it working on their wordpress, let me know.

below is the post that i painstakingly typed out on my blackjacks tiny qwerty keyboard, risking carpal tunnel syndrome and my ps3 playing ability:

My car is getting serviced right now. Theres only so many times i can play solitaire on the cell phone, and nothing is on the slingbox, so im pretty bored.

So i thought to myself, “you know what self, this would be a great time to test out the email-to-post feature on wordpress.” Basically, if you knew the email address im using for this feature, you would be able to write for angry ninja too! Good thing i made the email address super secret and obscure. Take that you hackers!

Ive also realized that typing out an entire post on a blackjack is pretty intense. I think my thumbs might fall off.

Whats going on tonight? Im going to be going to the giants game. I believe its woody tony ravey night. Im excited that i get to eat hot dogs and garlic fries, and to watch the game at beautiful at&t park (might be even better than watching the game in hd). You should watch and look for me. I think ill be in section 119.

Theres also plenty of tv for you to watch as well, you know, if baseball isnt your thing. The warriors are playing the nuggets in a huge game with playoff implications (winner will probably make the postseason, losers wont), and for you non sports fans, scrubs, my name is earl, the office and 30 rock are all on. Gonna be working my comcast dvr tonight!

go sports!!

April 3rd, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in sports

after last nights devastating loss, how could i not post about sports?

sung to the opening theme of salute your shorts.

my bay area sports teams,
i hold you in my heart,
but when i think about you.
it makes me want to barf.

warriors
last year a spent a magical two weeks at old pro drinking beerzookas watching the warriors go nuts in the playoffs. i really want to do that again this year. please make it happen.

giants
i hope we win 62 games this year. at least i still get to eat awesome garlic fries at att park on april 10th.

cal basketball
we missed the tourney, again - boo. then we fired our coach - yaay. then our best player made himself available for the draft - boo. we still dont have a coach - boo. thats 1 yay and 3 boos. not a very good yay to boo ratio. much like walking into suite 181 and realizing youre gonna be swordfighting.

49ers
wait nolan is still coaching? alex smith is still qb? do they still hate each other? at least dilfers gone. can mike martz help us put up some points in windy ass candlestick?

cal football
this is by far my most beloved sports team and we have been through a lot over the years. from the horrendous (holmoe, mack brown rose bowl snub of 04) to the stupendous (tedford, usc in 2003), so i have run the gamut of emotions with this team. we have just come off of a very traumatic season. the meltdown - going from #2 in the nation to the armed forces bowl. losing the big game. losing all our wide receivers. then losing our other rb. and dont get me started on those crazy tree sitters preventing us from building a real athletic center. and to top it all off, i find out that one of those tree sitters was none other than white mike from freshman year. what a horrible season. but not more horrible when we went 1-11 in 2001. if anyone can turn this ship around, its jeff tedford. maybe we can have him coach the mens basketball team as well.

so there you have it. all my teams in limbo. and although they currently make me want to barf, youll still be able to find me parked in front of my tv, old pro, or the boardwalk whenever they are on.
